feat(segmented-control): add the iOS segmented control - #45
dashwallet-ios has its own segmented control, used by the Payments landing (Receive / Internal / Send, with icons), Explore and DashConnect Connections (dashpay/dashwallet-ios#1277). Designs now come from the Android Figma, and the rule on iOS is to reuse the iOS component, so it belongs here with the other shared components.
What was done?
SegmentedControl moved from dashwallet-ios (DashWallet/Sources/UI/SwiftUI Components/SegmentedControl.swift), made public: SegmentedControl(options:selection:label:icon:) (icon optional, artwork above each label chosen per selection state) and SegmentedControl(options:selection:) for strings. Layout constants stay private.
Colours come from the Segment Control tokens: segmentControlBackground (pill), segmentControlBackgroundGroup (track), segmentControlContSelected / segmentControlContNotSelected (labels), instead of a colour-scheme branch and primaryText.opacity(0.4). Light is unchanged. Dark changes slightly: the track goes from gray at 20 % to white at 10 % (a little darker, neutral), selected labels from 90 % to 100 % white and unselected ones from 36 % to 40 %.
Taps only. The app's control lets you slide a finger across the segments to change the selection; DashUIKit's does not. Selection changes by tapping a segment, through one Button per segment that covers its share of the track (the inset included). Drag-to-select can come back in its own PR together with a real-touch test.
The control keeps its own height when its container offers more (the icon variant used to stretch with its pill).
The pill is placed from the segments' own bounds, so it follows a right-to-left layout and the Buttons sit exactly over the drawn segments at any width.
A selection that matches no option selects no segment and draws no pill (it used to sit under the first one). Of a repeated option only the first copy is selected.
VoiceOver: one button per segment in one container, the segment's label, the selected trait on the chosen one, no "Double tap to select" hint on the selected segment or on a disabled control. .disabled(true) stops taps and activation.
One spring for the pill; foregroundStyle; equal segment widths whatever the labels.
Previews for every state (text, icon, tall container, right to left, narrow, disabled, no matching selection, dark); snapshot tests (text and icon in every selection position, right to left, tall container, narrow, no matching selection); unit tests for the selection rule. Catalogued in docs/buttons-and-inputs.md, docs/README.md, README.md and docs/snapshot-tests.md.
dashwallet-ios drops its copy once this is tagged.
Known, not in this PR:
Dynamic Type: labels use the fixed-size footnoteMedium on one line and do not scale.
The "Double tap to select" hint is English only, with the package's localization gap.
A disabled control has no disabled look of its own (as in the app).
How Has This Been Tested?
swift build (macOS); xcodebuild test -scheme DashUIKit on an iOS 27 simulator (34 tests); conventions.sh OK.
On the iOS 27 simulator, the accessibility tree and accessibilityActivate() per segment: one button per segment with the right label, the selected trait, activation writes the binding once, a disabled control reports not-enabled and writes nothing, right to left mirrors the buttons to match the pill, a host .accessibilityLabel leaves the segment labels alone, and at ideal width the buttons follow the drawn cells.
Rendered light, dark, right to left, narrow and in a tall container, and compared with the PR's first version (the app's control). Snapshot references are rendered by the CI job and checked image by image.
Not tested with a real finger.
Before / After
Before is this PR's first version, which is the app's control as it is today.
Before
After

No visual change (refactor, tests, docs). Say why in "What was done?".
Breaking Changes
None in DashUIKit: the type is new. For the app, sliding across the segments no longer changes the selection once it moves to this control.
Checklist:
I have performed a self-review of my own code
I have commented my code, particularly in hard-to-understand areas
I have added or updated relevant unit/integration/functional/e2e tests
I have made corresponding changes to the documentation
Added a segmented control for choosing one option from a text-only or icon-based list, with accessible selection feedback and right-to-left layout support.
Documentation
Added the control to the component catalog and Buttons & inputs guide, including details about styling, accessibility, and selection behavior.
Tests
Added coverage for selection behavior and visual layouts, including narrow labels and selections with no matching option.
Moved from dashwallet-ios, where Payments, Explore and DashConnect use it,
so screens built from the shared designs reuse it unchanged.

The segmented control is mergeable on the available evidence. Additional automated coverage for tapping, accessibility, and repeated options would improve regression protection but does not establish a current behavior failure.

and the track and label colours further down — the catalogue already has segmentControlBackground, segmentControlBackgroundGroup, segmentControlContSelected and segmentControlContNotSelected (
), all unused. The control builds them by hand instead: a colorScheme branch for the pill, gray300Alpha20 for the track, primaryText.opacity(0.4) for unselected labels. CLAUDE.md says to use the token, not inline theming. In dark mode the hand-made values also differ from the tokens (the track is gray at 20% rather than white at 10%). Since parity with the app is the goal of this PR, a follow-up that switches to the tokens, with a dark render, may be the cleaner order. (tokens verified at this head)
— highPriorityGesture(DragGesture(minimumDistance: 0)) selects on touch-down and outranks the parent's pan. A vertical scroll that starts on the control (in ConnectionsScreen, inside a ScrollView) switches tabs, and may not scroll at all. This predates the move, but every host inherits it now. A small minimumDistance plus a horizontal-only check would keep both. (not verified at runtime)
and the drag mapping — the pill uses .offset(x: index * segmentWidth) from .leading, and drag picks Int(location.x / segmentWidth) from the left edge, while the HStack mirrors. In Arabic or Persian (the app ships both), the pill can sit under the wrong segment and a drag selects the mirror option. This predates the move. (not verified at runtime)
The VoiceOver hint leaves the app's catalogue — "Double tap to select" now resolves from Bundle.module, which has no localizations, so it is English everywhere. Once the app drops its copy, its additive = false BartyCrouch run removes the key there too. VoiceOver already says "double-tap to activate" for a button, so dropping the hint is the simplest fix. It is also set on the already-selected segment, where a double tap does nothing.
— firstIndex ?? 0 puts the pill under the first segment while no label is styled or announced as selected. ForEach(options, id: \.self) misbehaves with duplicate options. A DEBUG assert, or a line in the docs, would state both preconditions.
One animation, not three — the same spring runs through withAnimation in select(), .animation(value:) on the pill, and .animation(value:) on every segment. One of them would keep a host-driven change and a tap identical, with one place to tune.
Reuse and previews — the hand-rolled GeometryReader + onAppear / onChange repeats readingFrame(coordinateSpace:onChange:). The previews have no long label and no dark pin. .foregroundColor is still used, which #43 is sweeping out. Whichever of the two merges second will need to cover this file.
Review details
Tier: normal (a new public component, moved from the app). Levels 1–3 inline. Level 4 used the general lane (/code-review high) and the UI/accessibility specialist lane, which diffed the file against the dashwallet-ios develop copy and checked every call site, the token values, macOS, accessibility, Dynamic Type and RTL. The verifier checked the segmentControl* tokens and the gesture code at this head. Items 2, 3 and 5 predate the move and are listed because the component is now public.

✅ Approved (advisory), re-review. Since e2fe20d the branch only merged master (#40, #41, #42); the PR's own diff is unchanged apart from the docs/README.md conflict, which is resolved correctly (SwitchView from master and SegmentedControl from this PR are both listed). One new point comes with the merge: master's CLAUDE.md now asks for a snapshot test for a new component.

Verdict
1. Idea
✅ Unchanged: move the app's segmented control into the package.
2. Architecture
✅ Unchanged.
3. Completeness
⚠️ No SegmentedControlSnapshotTests (see recommendation 1); docs are otherwise in place.
4. Code
✅ No blockers or majors (general lane at this head, verified).
Closed since the last review: none — the component code did not change, so the seven earlier recommendations still apply. They are repeated in short form below, with three new ones.
Non-blocking recommendations (10)
New at this head:
Snapshot test for the new component — master's CLAUDE.md now says "A new component state that matters visually gets a snapshot test in SnapshotTests/Tests/DashUIKitSnapshotTests/<Component>SnapshotTests.swift". SegmentedControl.swift#L44 has text and icon variants and a separate dark pill, and none of them has a reference image yet; the "Covered:" list in docs/snapshot-tests.md would gain an entry too. Per the docs, the references come from the CI job (fetch-snapshots.sh), not a local simulator.
Icon variant can stretch vertically — #L141 drops the fixed height for the icon variant, and the pill RoundedRectangle in the ZStack (#L92-L98) takes whatever height is offered. In a container with spare vertical room the track and pill grow past the two-line content. .fixedSize(horizontal: false, vertical: true) on the control would cap it. (read from the code, not rendered)
Dynamic Type — labels use the fixed-size footnoteMedium with lineLimit(1) in a 40pt frame (#L161-L165), so they neither scale with accessibility text sizes nor wrap; long translations truncate. Predates the move.
Still open from the last review:
Use the Segment Control tokens — segmentControlBackground, segmentControlBackgroundGroup, segmentControlContSelected, segmentControlContNotSelected exist and are unused; the control builds the colours by hand (#L93, #L106, #L142).
Drag-to-select claims every touch — highPriorityGesture(DragGesture(minimumDistance: 0)) (#L131-L137) selects on touch-down and can take a vertical scroll that starts on the control.
Right-to-left — the pill offset and Int(x / segmentWidth) (#L168) assume option 0 is on the left while the HStack mirrors.
VoiceOver hint — "Double tap to select" (#L117) resolves from Bundle.module, which has no localizations, and is also read on the already-selected segment.
Selection outside options, duplicate options — firstIndex ?? 0 (#L86) puts the pill under the first segment while nothing is styled or announced as selected.
One animation, not three — withAnimation in select() plus .animation(value:) at #L97 and #L112.
Reuse and idiom — the GeometryReader + onAppear/onChange block (#L122-L130) repeats readingFrame(coordinateSpace:onChange:); .foregroundColor at #L106 is what #43 sweeps out.
Review details
Head reviewed: af56667 (previous bot review: e2fe20d). Compared the PR's own diff against the merge base before and after the merge: identical except the docs/README.md conflict resolution.
Tier: normal. Levels 1–3 inline. Level 4: general lane (/code-review high) at this head; no specialist lane, since the component code is unchanged and the UI lane covered it last time.
Verifier: confirmed the CLAUDE.md snapshot rule at this head and the absence of a SegmentedControl snapshot test; items 2 and 3 are from reading the code, not rendered.
- Colours come from the Segment Control tokens (segmentControlBackground,
segmentControlBackgroundGroup, segmentControlContSelected,
segmentControlContNotSelected) instead of a colour-scheme branch and an
opacity on primaryText.
- Drag-to-select hit-tests the segments' own frames, so it follows the
mirrored row in a right-to-left layout; the old x / width maths picked the
mirror option there.
- The control keeps its own height when its container offers more; the
icon variant used to stretch with the pill.
- A selection that matches no option selects no segment and draws no pill;
of a repeated option only the first copy is selected. The rules sit in
SegmentedControlSelection with unit tests.
- One spring constant, applied once to the control, plus the tap's
withAnimation so host content moves with the pill; reuse readingFrame;
foregroundStyle; no hint on the selected segment.
- Previews for a tall container, right to left, no matching selection and
dark; snapshot tests for text and icon variants in every selection
position, right to left, tall container and no matching selection.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…touch area
- The pill is drawn from a GeometryReader in the row's background, so it is
there on the first frame (and in a single-pass snapshot) instead of after a
state write; with no selected segment it is not drawn, so it appears in
place rather than sliding in from the first segment.
- The track's inset takes the drag too.
- VoiceOver activation calls select directly.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Drag-to-select divides the row width the same way the pill does and mirrors
the index in a right-to-left layout, instead of collecting every segment's
frame in state. One width write per layout change, no stale frames after the
options change, and the pill and the touch cannot disagree.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…ith onGeometryChange
- A disabled control ignores the VoiceOver activation as it ignores touch.
- The row width comes from onGeometryChange, without a GeometryReader and
its extra state round-trip.
- The snapshot docs name what the cases cover.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…converting
VoiceOver activation goes through the segment's own synthesized touch, which
a disabled control already blocks, so the extra accessibility action and its
enabled check go. The touch column is clamped as a CGFloat before it becomes
an Int.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…ed frames
The zero-distance, high-priority drag over the track took every touch, so
the segment Buttons never ran and selection went through x / width maths
that had to guess the layout direction.
- A drag starts after 8 pt; a shorter touch is a tap on the segment's own
Button, which also carries VoiceOver activation (no more
children: .ignore) and the disabled state.
- Each segment's frame is measured in one named coordinate space on the
track, and the drag reports in that same space, so hit-testing needs no
layout-direction flag. The pill is drawn on the selected segment's
measured frame: one geometry for both.
- A hosted test lays out a row in both directions and checks the first
option is hit where it is drawn.
- Snapshot test: static helpers, so the file compiles under Swift 6.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…aps on the inset
- The pill is placed from the segments' bounds anchors in the same layout
pass, so it follows a change of options and selection together and needs
no stored frames.
- The drag runs alongside the Buttons instead of ahead of them, so a tap is
always the Button's; a mostly vertical drag selects nothing.
- A tap on the track's inset selects the segment beside it.
- Segment frames for the hit-test come from readingFrame; the icon artwork
is hidden from VoiceOver inside the segment's Button.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Back to a high-priority drag (still from 8 pt): once it starts it owns
the touch, so the Button it began on cannot fire on release and undo it,
and a horizontal container does not move with it. A tap still reaches the
Button. Its direction is decided by the first movement.
- A disabled control ignores the track's tap and drag too.
- The hit shape is the rounded track, not its bounding square.
- Frames and the drag direction live in a reference the body does not
read, so measuring does not redraw the control; frames reset when the
number of options changes.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…pped tap
- The drag's direction is cleared when it ends, so the next drag decides
its own even from the same point.
- A touch that slips vertically by less than 24 pt still selects the
segment it started on, as a tap would.
- Frames are no longer cleared when the options change; every segment
re-reports and the hit-test reads only current indices.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… its farthest point
- A GestureState flag resets when the drag ends or is cancelled, and that
clears the stored direction, so a cancelled drag cannot leak into the next.
- The slipped-tap rule looks at how far the finger ever went, so a swipe
that comes back near its start is not taken for a tap.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Drop drag-to-select. Selection changes only by tapping a segment: a row
of Buttons over the track, each one segment's share of it with the inset
included, carries the touch and the VoiceOver element (label, selected
trait, hint only when not selected; disabled with the control). The
drawing underneath takes no touches; the pill is still placed from the
segments' bounds anchors.
This removes the drag gesture and its direction, slip and cancel
handling, the inset tap gesture, the measured frames and their hit-test
helper with its tests, and the hosted layout-direction test that only
served the touch mapping.
BREAKING CHANGE: unlike the app's control, sliding a finger across the
segments no longer changes the selection.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…snapshot
- Every segment gets the same share of the track even when a label does
not fit, so the drawn cells and the pill line up with the equal tap
targets.
- The Buttons sit in one accessibility container.
- A narrow preview and snapshot pin truncation; the docs state the
repeated-option rule, truncation and what .disabled does; the RTL
preview comment describes taps.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… accessibility container
- Each Button sits on its drawn segment's bounds, widened to the track's
height and, at the ends, to its edge, so touch and drawing agree at any
width, ideal width included.
- The control is one accessibility container: a label the host gives it
names the group and leaves each segment's own label alone.
- A disabled segment has no hint.

Thanks for both reviews. Where each point ended up (fix round on top of af56667, head now 8397c12):
Segment Control tokens — fixed in be10619. The pill, track and labels use segmentControlBackground, segmentControlBackgroundGroup, segmentControlContSelected and segmentControlContNotSelected. Light is unchanged. Dark: the track goes from gray at 20 % to white at 10 %, and the labels from 90 % / 36 % to 100 % / 40 % white (Before / After in the description).
Drag-to-select claims every touch — answered by removing drag-to-select (2b47c77). Selection changes only by tapping. Each segment is its own Button and covers its share of the track, inset included (5b8816d, ac1ea00). Nothing on the control takes a scroll or a pager swipe any more. Sliding across segments can come back in its own PR, together with a real-touch test.
Right-to-left — fixed. The pill and the Buttons are placed from the segments' own bounds anchors (052f8ef, 5b8816d), so both follow the mirrored row. Checked on an iOS 27 simulator: in the accessibility tree, the first option's button sits on the right under the pill. There are a right-to-left snapshot and a preview.
VoiceOver hint — partly. The hint is gone from the selected segment and from a disabled control (5b8816d). It is still English only, which is listed as known in the description along with the package's localization gap.
Selection outside options, duplicate options — fixed in be10619. No option matches → no segment is selected and no pill is drawn. Of a repeated option only the first copy is selected. ForEach is keyed by index. The rule is in the docs, unit tests, a preview and a snapshot.
One animation, not three — fixed. One spring constant, applied once to the drawing. The tap's withAnimation stays, so host content that switches on the selection moves with the pill, as it does in the app.
Reuse and previews — readingFrame / the hand-rolled GeometryReader are gone; the pill comes from anchor preferences. .foregroundStyle and clipShape(.rect(cornerRadius:)) follow refactor: move off deprecated foregroundColor, cornerRadius and overlay(_:alignment:) #43, which is merged in. Previews now cover the tall container, right to left, narrow, disabled, no matching selection and dark.
From the second review:
Snapshot tests — added: text and icon in every selection position, right to left, tall container, narrow, no matching selection. The references come from CI run 41337682069, were checked image by image, and are committed in 8397c12. docs/snapshot-tests.md lists them.
Icon variant stretches — fixed in be10619. The control keeps its own height, and there is a tall-container preview and snapshot.
Dynamic Type — not in this PR. It is listed as known in the description.

Add an accessibility test for the segment labels and selected trait.
The snapshot tests render pixels only, so they cannot detect removal of the per-segment accessibilityLabel or the .isSelected trait. No other test checks these values. The current code sets both correctly, so this is a regression-coverage gap, not a current defect. Without an automated check, a future change can remove them and VoiceOver users lose segment names or the selected state with no failing test.
Add a test that reads the control's accessibility tree and asserts each segment's label and the .isSelected trait on the selected segment. Keep the existing snapshot tests for visual coverage.

✅ Approved (advisory), re-review. The control was reworked since af56667: pill drawn from the segments' resolved bounds, one Button per segment for taps and VoiceOver, tokens, RTL, a fixed height in tall containers, a disabled path, snapshot references from CI and a selection test. Nine of the ten earlier recommendations are closed. Nothing blocking.

Verdict
1. Idea
✅ Unchanged goal; dropping drag-to-select for plain taps is a sound trade (no more stolen scrolls), and neither dashwallet-ios call site (PaymentsTabSelector, DashSpendFlexibleContent) relies on drag or needs an API change.
2. Architecture
✅ Drawing and touch come from the same anchors (#L119-L161); the drawing is hidden from accessibility and hit testing, the buttons are the only elements.
3. Completeness
✅ Snapshot tests for text, icon, tall container, narrow, RTL and no-match, in light and dark; docs list the cases.
4. Code
✅ No blockers or majors (general lane + UI/accessibility lane, verified; the RTL snapshot was checked: index 0 sits on the right under the pill).
Closed since the last review (af56667):
Snapshot test for the new component → SegmentedControlSnapshotTests, references from CI.
Icon variant stretching → .fixedSize(horizontal: false, vertical: true) (#L166) plus a tall-container snapshot.
Hand-made colours → segmentControl* tokens.
Drag claiming every touch → tap only.
Right-to-left pill and targets → anchors resolved in an LTR layer; end buttons picked by position.
Selection outside options → no pill, no selected segment, documented.
Three animations → one .animation(value: selectedIndex) plus the withAnimation the host sees.
GeometryReader width tracking and .foregroundColor → gone.
Hint on the selected segment → dropped there and on a disabled control.

VoiceOver order under RTL is unverified — the buttons sit in a ZStack forced to .leftToRight and placed by .offset (#L149-L159). If VoiceOver orders them by position, an Arabic user swiping hears the last option first. Worth one simulator check; .accessibilitySortPriority(Double(options.count - index)) on each button would pin reading order regardless. (not verified at runtime)
No press feedback — the button label is Color.clear (#L188-L195), so .plain's press dimming has nothing to dim, and selection lands on touch-up. A press that slides off cancels with no visible sign it registered. A light press state on the segment content would help. (reasoned from code)
Hint wording — "Double tap to select" (#L199-L201) names a gesture, which is wrong for Switch Control and Voice Control and repeats what VoiceOver says for a button; Apple's guidance is to describe the result. Dropping it also removes the English-only string (the app never translated it either).
Equal widths need a proposed width — .frame(minWidth: 0, maxWidth: .infinity) (#L181) falls back to each label's width when the host proposes none (.fixedSize(), a horizontal ScrollView), so segments and the pill come out unequal. One line in the docs, or a note that the control expects a width.
Empty options draws an empty 40pt track with no segments; a DEBUG assert or a docs line would make it visible.
T: Hashable is more than needed — only == is used; Equatable would accept more option types. Cheap to loosen now, before hosts depend on it.
Small cleanups — SegmentedControlSelection (#L42-L48) wraps one firstIndex(of:) call; the icon mapping is copied in the preview and the snapshot tests. Dynamic Type (fixed 13pt label) stays as the PR lists it, a known package-wide limit.
Review details
Head reviewed: 8397c12 (previous bot review: af56667). Delta: 20 commits reworking the control, plus merges of master (#43, #46, #48).
Tier: normal. Levels 1–3 inline. Level 4: general lane (/code-review high) and the UI/accessibility lane (RTL geometry, hit testing, VoiceOver structure, disabled, sizing, animation, ScrollView, dashwallet-ios call sites, docs).
Verifier: confirmed the RTL snapshot and the two app call sites; items 1 and 2 are from reading the code, not rendered. Nothing dropped; the general lane's hint finding and the UI lane's were merged.

Issue being fixed or feature implemented
dashwallet-ios has its own segmented control, used by the Payments landing (Receive / Internal / Send, with icons), Explore and DashConnect Connections (dashpay/dashwallet-ios#1277). Designs now come from the Android Figma, and the rule on iOS is to reuse the iOS component, so it belongs here with the other shared components.
What was done?
SegmentedControlmoved from dashwallet-ios (DashWallet/Sources/UI/SwiftUI Components/SegmentedControl.swift), made public:SegmentedControl(options:selection:label:icon:)(iconoptional, artwork above each label chosen per selection state) andSegmentedControl(options:selection:)for strings. Layout constants stay private.segmentControlBackground(pill),segmentControlBackgroundGroup(track),segmentControlContSelected/segmentControlContNotSelected(labels), instead of a colour-scheme branch andprimaryText.opacity(0.4). Light is unchanged. Dark changes slightly: the track goes from gray at 20 % to white at 10 % (a little darker, neutral), selected labels from 90 % to 100 % white and unselected ones from 36 % to 40 %.Buttonper segment that covers its share of the track (the inset included). Drag-to-select can come back in its own PR together with a real-touch test.selectionthat matches no option selects no segment and draws no pill (it used to sit under the first one). Of a repeated option only the first copy is selected..disabled(true)stops taps and activation.foregroundStyle; equal segment widths whatever the labels.docs/buttons-and-inputs.md,docs/README.md,README.mdanddocs/snapshot-tests.md.Known, not in this PR:

swift build(macOS);xcodebuild test -scheme DashUIKiton an iOS 27 simulator (34 tests);conventions.shOK.accessibilityActivate()per segment: one button per segment with the right label, the selected trait, activation writes the binding once, a disabled control reports not-enabled and writes nothing, right to left mirrors the buttons to match the pill, a host.accessibilityLabelleaves the segment labels alone, and at ideal width the buttons follow the drawn cells. Before / After
Before is this PR's first version, which is the app's control as it is today.
Breaking Changes
None in DashUIKit: the type is new. For the app, sliding across the segments no longer changes the selection once it moves to this control.
