Please confirm this pull request meets the following requirements:

Which change are you proposing?

  • Suggesting edits to an existing topic or collection
  • Curating a new topic or collection
  • Something that does not neatly fit into the binary options above

Editing an existing topic or collection

I'm suggesting these edits to an existing topic or collection:

  • Image (and my file is *.png, square, dimensions 288x288, size <= 75 kB)
  • Content (and my changes are in index.md)

N/A — this PR curates a new topic.

Curating a new topic or collection

  • I've formatted my changes as a new folder directory, named for the topic or collection as it appears in the URL on GitHub (e.g. https://github.com/topics/[NAME] or https://github.com/collections/[NAME])
  • My folder contains a *.png image (if applicable) and index.md
  • All required fields in my index.md conform to the Style Guide and API docs: https://github.com/github/explore/tree/main/docs

This curates the gitify topic for Gitify, an MIT-licensed, open source desktop app (~5.4k stars, first released May 2015) that brings notifications from GitHub, GitHub Enterprise Server, GitLab, Gitea, Forgejo, Codeberg, and Bitbucket Cloud to the menu bar on macOS, Windows, and Linux. Gitify is the most widely used repository tagged gitify, and the page gives visitors a short description and links to the official repository and website.

The logo (gitify.png, 288x288, transparent background with even padding, ~5 kB) is Gitify's official "G" mark, rendered from public/images/favicon.svg in the MIT-licensed gitify-app/website repository. The optional created_by field is omitted; the body names the current maintainers (Adam Setch and Afonso Jorge Ramos), and released reflects the first GitHub release (May 2015).

Disclosure: I'm a maintainer of gitify-app/gitify, which is also how I can confirm permission to use the logo. I've kept the copy factual and non-promotional. A few smaller, unrelated repositories also use the gitify topic (e.g. modmore/Gitify for MODX), and adoption of the topic overall is modest, so I understand if this doesn't meet the curation bar.

Validation (Ruby 3.4.1):

  • bundle exec rubocop — passed (no offenses)
  • TOPIC_FILES="topics/gitify/index.md topics/gitify/gitify.png" bundle exec rake topics — passed (56 runs, 0 failures)

Note: the lint and test (topics) CI jobs currently fail at the Setup Ruby step (Unavailable version 3.4.1 for ruby on ubuntu-26.04), which affects all open PRs and is addressed by #5440. I'll rebase once that lands.

Something that does not neatly fit into the binary options above

  • My suggested edits are not about an existing topic or collection, or at least not a single one
  • My suggested edits are not about curating a new topic or collection, or at least not a single one
  • My suggested edits conform to the Style Guide and API docs: https://github.com/github/explore/tree/main/docs

N/A — this PR curates a new topic.

What changed in this PR

Adds a new gitify topic page documenting multiple unrelated projects that share the Gitify name, including a Git platform notification app and a MODX data synchronization CLI.

Changes:

  • Adds valid metadata for the gitify topic.
  • Provides a neutral description distinguishing the related projects.
  • Omits project-specific ownership, branding, and logo fields.
File Description
topics/gitify/index.md Defines the Gitify topic metadata and explanatory content.

Closing this for now, as the topic's current adoption may not meet the curation bar. Thanks for taking a look.
