Security hardening for the open PER findings on percy-cli that can be fixed without changing behaviour.
PER-8619: systeminformation 5.25.11 contains four command-injection CVEs (fsSize, versions, wifi, networkInterfaces). Not exploitable (@percy/monitoring only calls si.cpu()/si.mem()), but the patched release is a cheap non-breaking bump.
PER-8618: POST /percy/snapshot?async combined with sync mode never registers the sync job, so handleSyncJob ran a pointless lookup and returned the misleading Missing snapshot ID.
packages/core/src/api.js: for ?async + sync mode, log a warning, skip the lookup, and return data.error = "Sync mode is not supported with the async parameter". Status code (200) and response shape are unchanged; the snapshot is still processed.
packages/core/test/api.test.js: new spec for that path.
Not included: PER-8617 (base64 memory on large PNG upload; every fix changes limits or needs a streaming redesign) and PER-8620/8623/8624 (multi-day items).
Verification
eslint clean on changed files (node:18 in Docker).
monitoring tests: 39/40 pass; the one failure fails identically on 5.25.11 (Docker container-level assertion).
The core spec could not run locally (Chrome fails under qemu emulation on this machine); relying on CI.
Snapshot requests that combine sync mode with the async parameter now return an error rather than proceeding with snapshot processing. The snapshot details are not fetched, and synchronous requests without the async parameter continue to use the registered snapshot job.
Chores
Updated the monitoring package’s system-information support.
Resolves to 5.33.16, the latest 5.x. Picks up fixes for the command-injection
CVEs in fsSize, versions, wifi and networkInterfaces (CVE-2025-68154,
CVE-2026-26318, CVE-2026-26280, CVE-2026-44724). Minor bump within 5.x only.

Walkthrough
When a snapshot request combines ?async with sync: true, the route returns an error and logs a warning. The monitoring package also updates its systeminformation dependency range.
Changes: Snapshot Async Handling
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Handle async requests in sync mode packages/core/src/api.js, packages/core/test/api.test.js
The route returns an error and logs a warning for async requests in sync mode. The test checks the response, confirms snapshot details are not fetched, and verifies that the snapshot promise remains pending until resolved.
Monitoring Dependency Update
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Update systeminformation range packages/monitoring/package.json
The dependency range changes from ^5.25.11 to ^5.31.6.
Async snapshot failures can become unhandled errors after the response is sent, so the rejection should be handled before merging.

Explanation
The title includes two Jira keys (PER-8619, PER-8618) and a plain-English description of both changes, so it meets the title requirement. It names the dependency bump and the sync+async snapshot warning, which match the changeset. The 'fix(security)' prefix matches the security-driven dependency bump.

Findings
No confirmed findings. Risks examined and cleared: (1) engines: 5.33.16 declares node >=10, compatible with the package's >=14; (2) cpu/mem API shape unchanged (checked on Node 14); (3) lockfile resolves 5.33.16, which the PR body states.
… + ?async (PER-8618)
With ?async the snapshot is not awaited, so the sync job is never
registered and handleSyncJob returned 'Missing snapshot ID' after a
pointless lookup. Skip the lookup, log a warning, and return an explicit
message. Status code and response shape are unchanged.

chore(deps): bump systeminformation to ^5.31.6 (PER-8619)
fix(security): bump systeminformation (PER-8619), warn on sync+async snapshot (PER-8618)
Oct 26, 2026
Adds a second fix to the PR: POST /percy/snapshot?async combined with sync mode now logs a warning, skips the pointless handleSyncJob lookup and returns an explicit data.error (PER-8618). Status 200 and the response shape are unchanged. Adds a spec. The systeminformation bump (PER-8619) is as reviewed before.

Findings
No confirmed findings. Low, optional: the response still carries success: true with data.error, so SDKs that only check success still treat it as success (intentional; a 400 would break setups where sync comes from global config).
Attach a rejection handler to async snapshot processing.
percy.snapshot() can reject after the async response is sent. The route does not await or handle that promise, so processing failures become unhandled rejections outside the API error boundary. Attach a logging handler while keeping the response immediate.
Add an async-route test that rejects the controlled snapshot promise and asserts that the rejection is handled.
The added test resolves its controlled promise, so it does not exercise this failure path.
