Leave files of the scenario out of the installation cache - #411
The installation cache holds everything a WordPress installation adds to the core files. It is created by whichever scenario installs WordPress first, and every later scenario is set up from it. Files that this first scenario created before installing also ended up in the cache, and from there in all later scenarios.
In wp-cli/wp-cli, the Background of runcommand.feature creates a wp-cli.yml with user: admin and require: command.php before each scenario installs WordPress. Whenever one of these scenarios installed WordPress first, later scenarios unexpectedly ran with that configuration. This showed up in the parallel runs of #390, where each worker starts with different scenarios: --context=admin resolved to admin instead of the configured super admin, and --debug reported a project config where none should exist.
The cache now leaves out whatever was in the run directory before the installation started. Creating the subdirectory of an installation also no longer fails when the scenario created files in it already. A new scenario covers this, and fails without the change.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Reusing a directory for a WordPress installation no longer carries over files or linked directories that were present before installation. Existing directories are preserved rather than recreated.
Tests
Added coverage for directory reuse with pre-existing files and symbolic links.
The installation cache holds everything a WordPress installation adds to the
core files, and is created by whichever scenario installs WordPress first.
Files that scenario created before installing, such as a wp-cli.yml, also
ended up in the cache, and from there in every later scenario set up from
it. Which scenario that is depends on the order in which they run, and
differs between parallel workers.
Leave out what was in the run directory before the installation started.
Creating the subdirectory of an installation also no longer fails when the
scenario created files in it already.

Walkthrough
The installation flow preserves an existing requested directory, records its entries before downloading WordPress, and removes those entries from the installation cache. New scenarios verify reuse with both a regular directory and a symlinked directory.
Changes: Scenario file isolation
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Preserve scenario files and clean the cache src/Context/FeatureContext.php, features/testing.feature
download_wp() creates the requested directory only when it is absent. install_wp() records existing paths and removes them from the cache after copying. Scenarios check that a reused installation contains wp-config.php but excludes the seeded file or linked directory.
Installing WordPress into a subdirectory given with a trailing slash can leave scenario files such as wp-cli.yml in the shared installation cache, which is the leak this PR is meant to prevent. The issue is narrow and the fix is a one-line change, so the PR is close to mergeable.

- Line 1978: The install cache is visible before it is complete; update the
cache-building flow around self::remove_from_dir to build the directory and SQL
dump under private temporary names, remove scenario-created files there, then
publish the dump and rename the directory last. Handle a competing worker that
has already published the cache without exposing or replacing a partial cache.
- Line 2262: Update dir_diff_copy() to skip symlink entries so directory symlink
targets are not copied into the install cache; keep list_dir()’s existing
behavior of recording symlinks as single entries.
